ABOUT US

In response to finding only a small number of businesses with ethnically diverse leadership in Plymouth and having the need to help newly settled BAMEs start-up businesses, our co-founders merged their passion and entrepreneurial ideas into creating a business incubation hub where everyone could get help with starting and growing a business.

Following many months in their own incubation centre, the founders Jabo Butera and David Feindouno formally set up Diversity Business Incubator on January 10th 2018. Their primary goal to aid both established and aspiring entrepreneurs, focuning on supporting the minority ethnicity community.

DBI wants to enhance their offering to inspire ambitions and reach other Minority communities within the South West Regions. With a key focus on nurturing and championing young talent, there is no age limit to apply for one of the services that DBI offers, just be passionate, willing and eager to learn.

We work with local businesses, including self-employed people and non-profit organisations, to find the right guidance and support to help their business work smarter and develop. We are anchored by our faith and willpower to help local communities and individuals to grow and gain knowledge in the business sector.

We constantly challenge ourselves to grow and cannot wait to see what amazing adventures the future holds for aspiring entreprenures on the DBI programme.

 What is ‘BAME’?

BAME stands for ‘Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicities’. We focus on supporting people in this demographic but at DBI we believe that the inclusion of all ethnicities is essential for building a strong community.

WORDS FROM OUR PARTNERS

  • “DBI is a key organisation for us to engage with around Plymouth. It is very clear from the onset that Jabo Butera and his team are very well linked with all organisations and that clarity of working in that partnering with hopefully ourselves as well as the organisations he will introduce us to will give us a great platform to see our story and also for us to learn a little bit more about the people we are looking to inspire into future roles.”

Steve Perham (Royal Air Force- Specialist Engagement Team)

  • “Our involvement with the BAME awards and with DBI is really centred around inclusion and diversity and ensuring that people that we serve, we reflect that into our services as well. It was my first time attending the BAME awards but I have to say I was kind of taken aback by the level of community that you felt, the inspiration of so many of the people there, not just those that were receiving an award but those of the other people in the room that were there to support them as well. Like a consistent message of hope and encouragement to make a difference for the people close to you and the wider region that you work and live in. I felt that definitely reflected what we are trying to do with our inclusive programmes trying to get the communities to work together while also seeing what we can do to help you.”

    Odis Palmer (Great Western Railway)

  • “Part of our passion is trying to make the programme as diverse as possible and Jabo Butera is obviously a really big part of the BAME community in Plymouth. So we see him as integral as a part of our future going forward in terms of working together collaboratively, which I think is so important. So I think he certainly has the linkages, the contacts and the support of the community. It has been, you know an honour and a delight for me to see how his business has progressed and I think the culmination of that is the award ceremony which we would be delighted and proud to be part of and sponsor. Seeing that event for the first time, going to it was amazing, the community that he’s built, the passion, the enthusiasm and the fun that the event brings and also the recognition for some great entrepreneurs is fantastic. The fact that Jabo brought that together himself I think he’s testament to what DBI is and how well he is doing.”
